about

A 20 minute work in 4 connected movements, This Path With Grace was inspired by the stunning videography of Michael Fletcher and written beneath the silent bright power of the moon, This Path with Grace is probably my most testing and ambitious piece so far. It took a long time to bring together, and began life in a very different guise, as most of my pieces seem to do! I wanted to celebrate - and illustrate in sound - the individual feminine energies that seem to inhabit and sculpt my music. I hope you enjoy it.

Much of Michael’s imagery fed directly through in to my writing, including scenes of derelict churches, glacial waters, and wide windswept lands. In particular I tried to paint these scenes with sounds I specifically created on my electric cello, making equal use of effects and extended cello techniques, and this is supported by the rich strident warmth of the more regular acoustic cello sound, and the ethereal beauty of the Green Army Choir. We premiered this piece live on Saturday 7th Feb, and both Mike's film and a live recording and video will be available shortly.
